Fall is definitely here. The mornings are cooler, the days are getting shorter, and our teams are shifting into the final stretch of the season.

While some services are wrapping up, others are just getting started. From preparing your lawn for winter, to blowing out irrigation systems, protecting your home from rodents, and getting ready for Christmas, there is still lots happening across the Nutri-Lawn service group.

Here is what to expect this fall.

LAWN CARE

It is time to think about winter preparation for your lawn. These tips will help your lawn survive the long, cold, harsh Ottawa climate over winter and return healthy next spring.

FALL FERTILIZER: Fall Fertilizations are well underway and will continue in October. Fall fertilizers will ensure good winter survival, increased root density, and an earlier spring green up.

It is not too late to get your lawn started on the path to good health. Fertilizer applications can still be scheduled.

GRUB PROTECTION WITH grubGONE.

Grubs feed on the roots of your lawn and can cause significant damage if populations become heavy. You may notice areas of turf that are thinning, yellowing, or lifting easily from the soil.

Our grubGONE biological control targets grubs before they have the opportunity to cause even more damage.

SEEDING & WEED CONTROL: The cooler temperatures have brought our seeding and weed control season to an end.

If you missed fall seeding this year, don't worry. We can help you plan ahead for next season. For now, continue to mow as needed and keep leaves from building up on the lawn.

MOWING BEFORE WINTER: This is a controversial subject. It was previously thought that a shorter cut for your last cut of the year is what is needed. With modern seed and turfgrasses, we recommend that you keep your lawn at 2.5”-3” even for your last cut. The important point is that you do not leave your lawn too long over winter, which will reduce winter damage and possible lawn diseases moving in. Also, do not allow leaves to be left on the lawn over winter. Mulch or rake your leaves before the snow arrives.

SPRINKLER SOLUTIONS

FALL INSTALLATIONS: Fall is a very busy time for commercial construction in Ottawa. You will see our irrigation teams throughout the city, installing irrigation systems at various high profile locations. Installations will continue until late November, or until the snow arrives, whichever comes first.

BLOWOUT SEASON IS WELL UNDERWAY: The Irrigation crews are in “all out massive action” winterizing our clients’ irrigation systems. We have a fleet of 15 vans working 6 days a week to make sure that everyone is serviced before snowfall. Our clients will receive an email with the scheduled date for your service. There is no need to be home for the visit. Simply turn off your water before our visit and we will take care of the rest. Our customized software program will email and text you the day before the service. And, as a virtual knock on the door, we will text you as the technician is heading to your property.
