Once you’ve got your lawn looking the way you like it, establishing your Vancouver lawn care routine is essential to keeping your lawn looking beautiful every season. Consider the following tips for nurturing your lawn:

Watering Tips

One of the most important parts of Vancouver lawn care is ensuring that your lawn has the hydration it needs to flourish. Like all plants, grass needs enough water to stop it from wilting and becoming dormant, but not so much water that it rots or grows fungi. The most reliable way ofproviding the right amount of water to your lawn is by having a trusted Vancouver lawn care provider, such as Nutri-Lawn, install an in-ground irrigation system. Contact us for a no obligation quote.

Water your lawn before the Sun’s too strong: Watering your lawn in the morning hours before the sun is at its strongest will allow your lawn to absorb water without getting burnt. Watering in the afternoon can burn your lawn because the beads of water refract sunlight like a magnifying glass intensifying the Sun’s U.V. radiation. This is where having an in-ground irrigation system comes in handy for Vancouver lawn care; like most people, your mornings are probably sufficiently busy and watering your lawn is not likely on the radar. With an irrigation system, you can simply set the start and stop times and the system will take care of the rest.

Water deeply and infrequently: an ideal watering schedule for Vancouver lawn care is approximately 1 inch of water every 5 to 7 days. It’s best to apply this 1 inch of water in a single watering to saturate your lawn. Watering more often can create a continually moist environment where fungi can grow leading to rootrot. As your Vancouver lawn care provider, we know that precipitation around here varies a lot depending on the season but don’t worry, you won’t need to measure precipitation because we provide water-sensing irrigation systems that will only water your lawn when necessary.

Mowing Tips

Mowing has been part of Vancouver lawn care for as long as there have been lawns. Mowing is something that all of us with lawns need to think about and there are some very beneficial and some very harmful practices out there. We have had the pleasure of being the foremost Vancouver lawn care provider for over 20 years and we’re here to share our knowledge on the correct way to mow your lawn.

Don’t throw away that mulch:

Many people incorrectly bag up the clippings after they’ve mowed the lawn and throw it out. Those clippings are filled with nutrients and moisture that your lawn can use in a sort of self-fertilization. When you’re done mowing the lawn, spread a thin, even layer of clippings over the lawn. Just be sure that there are no clumpy patches that might suffocate the grass below.

Appropriate blade height: There seems to be a mentality of “the shorter I cut my grass, the less often I’ll have to mow it” out there. And although this may be true, cutting your lawn too short might mean you don’t have a lawn to mow at all. Giving your lawn a buzz cut means that the short blades of grass can’t shade themselves and your lawn will burn. Grass should be cut every 5 to 7 days at a length of 2.5 to 3 inches.

If you’re having a hard time keeping up with your mowing schedule, take a look at our Vancouver lawn care programs, we’ve been a trusted Vancouver lawn care provider for over two decades and your satisfaction is our only concern.
