Earlier I sent out the following email with links to be able to donate to Red Cross relief efforts. The toll free number on the page to donate in Canada is missing a number the correct number should be 1-800-418-1111.If you would like to contribute to the relief efforts through the Red Cross the links are post below.
|A new entry has been posted on our website. As most of you will know by now, last night Haiti (the Dominican Republic's neighbor) was hit by a 7.0 magnitude quake and has caused "massive destruction in all the main neighborhoods" of Port-au-Prince. A large number of the orphans in NPH as well as the families we work with in the surrounding bateys are of Haitian decent and would have family still in Haiti.
I have posted an update here from our NPH on the latest information they have. It is estimated that up to 3 million people are affected by the earthquake according to the Red Cross. The death toll is estimated in the hundreds of thousands.
I know we have been asking for donations to assist with our efforts and these donations are greatly appreciate and put to valuable use however under these extreme circumstance we encourage everyone to consider donating to help the relief efforts in Haiti. Donations can be made through the Red Cross in Canada by clicking here and the Red Cross in the US byclicking here.
I encourage you to think about setting up a donation program in your workplace or by asking customers to donate any amount they can spare. Remember most people in Haiti live on less than $1 per day so any contribution goes a long way!
